The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is Pakistan’s premier franchise Twenty20 competition, run by the Pakistan Cricket Board and first played in 2016. Every franchise is named after a major Pakistani city and fields a mix of the country’s leading internationals, emerging domestic talent and overseas stars.
Matches are played at Pakistan’s main international grounds — Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Multan Cricket Stadium — and the tournament is one of the most-watched sporting events in the country.
How the tournament works
Each team plays every other side twice in a double round-robin league stage. The top four teams then enter the playoffs: Qualifier 1 (1st v 2nd), the Eliminator (3rd v 4th), Qualifier 2 (loser of Qualifier 1 v winner of the Eliminator), and the Final. Two points are awarded for a win, one for a no-result, and net run rate separates teams level on points.
